Snow in the Park, one of the most popular events in the Henderson-Massey Local Board event calendar, has been nominated for Best Local Government Event at the 2018 New Zealand Event Awards.

The nomination pits the annual snow-themed event, held at Royal Reserve in Massey which includes a four-lane tube run, under six snowboarding area, snow play area, face-painting, bouncy castles, a climbing wall, huskies and bumper-ball soccer against five other events across the country.

Unique event

Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair Shane Henderson says the board is delighted with the nomination.

“Snow in the Park is unique for so many reasons – we literally bring real snow to the park for people to play with!

“It goes from strength to strength, with around 6000 people at the 2018 event, the most we have ever had, which shows how popular it is.

“We are absolutely delighted to have been nominated for the award, and can’t wait to find out if we have won!”

Hard work

Henderson-Massey Local Board member Vanessa Neeson, who started the project, says the nomination recognises some incredibly hard work that goes into the event's organisation.

“2018 was the fourth year of snow in the park and we have always known it is an absolute treasure of an event,” she says.

“This nomination is recognition of the extremely hard work that goes into organising it. I am constantly blown away at the dedication and effort that goes into putting Snow in the Park on.

"The numbers speak for themselves, our community loves it and that’s why it keeps on getting bigger and bigger.

“I want to congratulate the staff and community groups who put their heart and soul into delivering this for our community year after year.

“We also really want to thank Snow Planet who have grabbed hold of this idea and thrown all their resources at it to help make it better and better every year.

“I am delighted for everyone involved – they absolutely deserve this recognition.”
