Auckland Council’s Appointments, Performance Review and Value for Money Committee has appointed three new board directors to the boards of Auckland Transport and Regional Facilities Auckland (RFA) at its December meeting.

Following a rigorous selection process, Dr Jim Mather has been appointed as a director to the Auckland Transport board, and both Candace Kinser and Jennifer Rolfe have been appointed as directors to the RFA board.

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says, “Each of the new directors brings significant expertise to their roles. Their contribution to the governance of Auckland will be valuable as we embark on delivering record levels of infrastructure investment in our city.”

Dr Jim Mather has been appointed to the board of Auckland Transport

Dr Jim Mather is of Ngāti Awa, Tūhoe and English descent. He has 25 years of leadership experience and is the Chair of Radio New Zealand, Director of Ngāti Awa Group Holdings Limited and a member of the MBIE Risk and Advisory Committee.

Previously he has led Māori Television and Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and was Chief Executive of the Pacific Business Trust from 2002 to 2005. He is also a qualified accountant and a member of the Chartered Accountants of Australia & New Zealand and the New Zealand Institute of Directors.

A former New Zealand Army officer, Dr Mather was awarded the Sword of Honour in recognition of his distinguished achievements in Officer training.

Regional Facilities Auckland board

Candace Kinser has held a number of senior executive roles as a Chief Executive, corporate advisor and director on private, government and listed boards.

She is a board director for EROAD limited, Livestock Improvement, WEL Networks, Ultrafast Fibre and global technology recruitment company Talent International.

Candace has previously served as a director for Quotable Value (QV), Chief Executive of NZTech and Biomatters Ltd and served as a Trustee for health charity organisation the Well Foundation.  She has also worked to develop family-owned businesses McCashins Brewing and the Superb Herb Company.

Jennifer Rolfe is currently a Non-Executive Director of Citycare Limited and the Director and Managing Partner of Auckland-based creative agency, Rainger & Rolfe.

She has 20 years of experience working in digital, brand and loyalty advertising managing some of New Zealand’s biggest and most interesting brands and working in some of the country’s biggest and best advertising agencies. 

Jennifer has served on a number of boards including New Zealand Rugby League, Dunedin Venues Management Limited and Cancer Society’s Daffodil Enterprises Limited and has won the New Zealand marketing industry’s Supreme Award twice in 2014 and 2018.

All appointments are for three years from 1 November 2018 until 30 October 2021.

The council’s Appointments, Performance Review and Value for Money Committee is responsible for all board appointments to substantive council-controlled organisations.
