Come and join the fun at Rautawhiri Park, Helensville on Sunday, 17 February.

Rodney Local Board Parks and Recreation Committee Chair Brent Bailey says a multi-million dollar investment has gone into upgrading the 11-hectare park and it’s time for the community to celebrate.

“This is the largest park in Helensville and home to many sports codes including rugby, league, netball, tennis and cricket.

“This investment enables people to use and enjoy a major sports and recreation facility throughout the year.

“The improvements are well-timed with the new housing development going in across the road and the area’s growing population.”

Recent park upgrades

The $2.3 million upgrade includes new surfaces for netball and tennis courts, better drainage, new nets, hoops, fences and lights, and a practice wall.

The 2km perimeter path is being built in stages, with the first stage complete. The path will link the park’s facilities and provide a walking and exercising circuit.

The Lions Club of Helensville has donated several fitness stations which are placed along the path.

Future plans include upgrading the toilets, changing rooms and sports fields three and four, investing in new park furniture and developing the next stages of the perimeter path to create a circuit around the park.

The park’s facilities have been developed over 20 years and include a community building, tennis and netball courts, football fields, a children’s playground and extensive walkable parkland.
