New programme funds local events in Albert-Eden

The new Albert-Eden events broker programme provides funding to people who have great ideas for small local events in the area.

“It is set to boost Albert-Eden’s local events and make the area a more vibrant place to live and work,” says local board chair Peter Haynes. “It will also help build capabilities in the community.”

The programme covers Balmoral, Mt Eden, Epsom, Greenlane, Mt Albert, Pt Chevalier, Waterview, Owairaka, Sandringham, Morningside and Kingsland. More than 25 strong applications were received, with six events selected to be a part of the programme.

Helping locals run great events

“This programme is designed to help locals run great events in their own neighbourhoods. Many people have ideas for events they’d like to happen but aren’t sure exactly how to go about achieving that, so this programme can help assist people getting their event from idea to reality,” says Bronwyn Bent, Arts and Events Broker for the Albert-Eden Local Board area.

A workshop and mentoring programme also helps people develop their ideas.

Wide range of events

Events include the Mt Eden Wellbeing Fair; the Show Me Shorts events, which showcase films from different countries; the Art Street Fair, which brings visual artists out into the streets; the Free Family Mash Up Day; a community dinner and a music event.
