Upgrades to make Keith Hay Park carparks safer

Busy public car parks on Richardson road and Noton roads are being renewed as a part of Auckland Council’s public park and car park rehabilitation programme.

The upgrades will make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to move around the southeast part of the park safely. Funding has also been provided from Puketāpapa Local Board's capital fund.

Locals and regulars may have already noticed the temporary traffic control signage to direct traffic around the area. The Richardson Road car park work is largely completed, with some planting outstanding, while the Noton Road works are now well underway and should be complete by spring.

Work will ensure that the car parks are better and safer for everyone who uses them. The area has several schools and sports clubs, and acts as a major pedestrian and cyclist thoroughfare for those accessing Cameron Pools and the Mt Roskill campus schools.

“These car parks are constantly being used and this is a busy spot with Waikowhai Intermediate School, Hay Park School, Eden Roskill Cricket Club and Hillsborough Kindergarten,” says Harry Doig, Chair, Puketāpapa Local Board.

"These works will cause some inconvenience in the short term but the works will make the car parks, and the park, safer and more accessible to all in the long run."

The scope of the construction work includes new drainage construction, new car park lighting construction, car park pavement construction and new footpath construction.

Most work will be carried out between 7.30am-6pm, Monday to Friday, and on some Saturdays.

See the pedestrian management plan here and the pedestrian re-routing plan here for the duration of the construction.
