Up to 20 million litres of water per day can now flow easily from a reservoir complex in Albany to one in Pinehill on Auckland's North Shore thanks to a new pump station and 2.4-kilometre-long water main.

Watercare senior project engineer, Craig Matthewson, says the new pump station and water main will support Pinehill’s rapidly-growing population and make the water network on the North Shore more resilient.

“The Albany and North Harbour areas are experiencing rapid growth. Due to the accompanying increase in demand, the Pinehill reservoir draws down at a faster rate."

“With the help of the new pump station, treated water will now travel from Albany to Pinehill reservoirs. Surrounding North Shore communities will benefit from the flexibility of a wider water network and a secure water supply.”

The Albany reservoir pump station was completed earlier this month and has now been in operation for two weeks.

The commissioning of the pump station marked the final stage of the Albany – Pinehill reservoirs water main project which also included the award-winning Tirohanga Whānui pipe bridge in Albany.
