Auckland Libraries

Behind The Scenes Competition AL

An opportunity for you and a friend to see the “back story” with a tour led by the specialist staff who cares for the unique collections at Auckland Central City Library.

For: Two people
Duration: 2 hours
Valid: 1 September - 1 December 2019

Experience includes:

  • View the Real Gold case in the Reading Room and go behind the scenes to see where the featured item resides
  • Visit the photographic cool storage
  • Visit the printed and manuscript storage area and the bound newspaper storage area
  • Enter the Conservation Laboratory and see live demonstrations of conservation treatments in progress
  • Observe the Digitisation Suite – where photographs are captured for Kura Heritage Collections Online
  • Visit the basement storage stacks – two levels of subterranean storage
  • All guests receive a copy of Real Gold the treasures book at the conclusion of the tour.


Auckland Museum

Behind The Scenes Competition AM

Auckland Museum is offering a money-can't-buy experience in conjunction with the ‘Carried Away: Bags Unpacked’ exhibition – an opportunity for you and a friend to see the collection up close and access stories from behind the scenes.

For: Two people.
Duration: ~2 hours
Valid: 1 September - 1 December 2019

Experience includes:

  • Guided tour of the exhibition, with the opportunity to go behind the scenes
    at the museum and see the collection up close
  • Hosted by Grace Lai, the Curator of the Museum’s Applied Arts and Design team
  • ‘Carried Away: Bags Unpacked’ features a display of 150 bags spanning histories, cultures and styles. Visitors will experience the lives and cultures of people throughout history by exploring everyday items and see the bags we carry in a new light.

 

Auckland Zoo

Behind The Scenes Competition AZ

The Auckland Zoo is offering a unique opportunity for your family to be taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of the zoo where you’ll get to join keepers.

For: Family of four (two adults aged 15+ and two children (aged 4-14)
Duration: ~2 hours
Valid: 1 September 2019 - 31 January 2020

Experience includes:

  • Guided walk/talk through our NZ precinct Te Wao Nui – our keepers will talk about our birds and ectotherm in their habitats
  • Witness a bird feed in the forest aviary by our keepers
  • Watch a kea training session by our keepers
  • Watch a whio (duck) live food feed by our keepers
  • Witness a ‘UV boost’ (sunbed session!) of our endangered frogs by a keeper (Tuesdays only!)
  • Watch a tuatara feed by our keepers (in the Islands)
  • Watch an eel feed by our keepers (in the Wetlands).
