Better facilities coming for Browns Bay skaters and basketballers

A half court and a quarter pipe planned for Browns Bay are sure to thrill basketballers and skaters.

Hibiscus and Bays Local Board has approved designs to upgrade the beachfront skate park and will locate a basketball half court at Freyberg Park.

Most people preferred the Freyberg Park option which has an unused grass area next to the bowling club that is ideal for a 3x3 court. Auckland Council staff will investigate whether it will be possible to establish a full-size court in the future.

Nearly everyone is keen for a quarter pipe extension at the skate park. Investigations are underway to determine if a better barrier is required between the quarter pipe extension and adjacent parking area. Pedestrian safety will be improved around the skate park and marine centre.

Other work includes resurfacing the half pipe and improving drainage. While the skate park must close during construction, the work is expected to be completed in time for the busy summer period.

Further details can be found on the council website (see item 13).
