Go Behind the Scenes with OurAuckland

Published: 31 July 2019

This month, OurAuckland is meeting some of the people who work 'behind the scenes' to make Tāmaki Makaurau a great place to live.

With a population of over 1.6 million people, we all want to move freely, work productively, play happily and live safely. We venture from wastewater treatment plants and the Auckland Zoo to the Emergency Operations Call Centre and the Auckland Central Library. We also take a look at some of the interesting lives lived by Auckland Council staff.

See more on the Behind the Scenes page.

Win with OurAuckland

To celebrate ‘behind the scenes’ month there is also an opportunity for you to win one of the following tours:

  • A guided tour through Auckland Zoo, with your chance to see feeding sessions with the animals up close and personal.
  • Be taken on a guided tour of the ‘Carried Away’ exhibition at Auckland Museum with curator Grace Lai.
  • Take a trip through time as you explore the archives of Auckland Central Library as a specialised staff takes you on a tour through the ‘back story’.

Simply tell us which Behind the Scenes experience you would like to go on. Don’t worry if you can’t decide you can choose all three.

Make sure you stay tuned throughout the month to go Behind the Scenes of Auckland!

Get the magazine

The August issue of OurAuckland is out from 3 August in letterboxes, cafes, transport hubs, libraries, council service centres, and local board offices.

This the month, we're meeting the staff working at Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, Auckland Zoo, and other council-run facilities, to explore a day in the life of the city, go underground to check out the City Rail Link, finding out what goes into the campaign for voter turnout, and much more.

There are 14 versions of the A4 magazine – providing news and events for the 13 Auckland Council wards and one version for areas spanning ward boundaries.

A large-print version is available at Auckland Libraries for people with sight impairments or those who prefer the larger format.

Find previous issues in the OurAuckland magazine archive.
