Through regular events and activities, and collaborating with local organisations, Roskill Together, a local not-for-profit organisation, is making Puketāpapa more inclusive and age friendly.

The group is supported by Puketāpapa Local Board with a strategic funding grant.

Over several months, Roskill Together has collaborated with ADCOSS, Age Concern, Bhartiya Samaj and Grey Power, and are assisting the Chinese community with programmes for seniors. These have included a first aid course, a walking group, a healthy cooking course over four weeks, Age Concern workshops and a six-week seniors dance programme.

“Providing social and educational opportunities that the seniors themselves have identified as things that they would like to do, is crucial to both reducing social isolation and ensuring a long and happy life,” says David Mitchell from Roskill Together.

In the coming months, the group is planning on creating local hubs for seniors. These will respond to gaps in services for seniors and go a long way in countering loneliness and isolation elders are at risk of experiencing.
