Plans to improve the facilities at the Waitakere BMX Club have been given a boost following the award of a $14,000 Grant from the Henderson-Massey Local Board.

The grant will go towards costs to install floodlights at the club grounds during the upcoming summer period, work which needs to be done during summer in order to comply with regulations at the site.

Programme of works

It is part of an overall programme of improvements at the club, which will also see a new canopy over the start gate and the instillation of a new electronic timing system.

Once complete, the upgrades will mean that the track will meet Cycling NZ specifications and will be able to host accredited BMX competitions. In addition to the grant from the board, the club has already fundraised $250,000 towards the cost of the upgrades.

Chris Manning, Waitakere BMX Club Funding Officer says: “We are delighted that the board have been able to support us in this way.

"We have done a lot of hard work in raising the rest of the money, and this will allow us to progress the floodlight project, which is time critical.

“If we missed the deadline for these earthworks we would face a 12-month delay, so we are really grateful that the board has been able to support us in our ongoing efforts to provide a top-class BMX facility for the community.”
