NZ Opera brings four gifted artists to Music in Parks this weekend with a programme inspired by nature, plants and our love of the outdoors.
NZ Opera explains: “Writers, artists and composers have always been drawn to nature as a metaphor for the human spirit.
"The natural environment creates a space for us to reflect and this concert provides a wonderful opportunity to connect through music and song.”
The sparkling line-up includes the glorious voices of Lachlan Craig tenor, James Harrison baritone, Emma Sloman soprano and Kate Webber mezzo-soprano accompanied by world-class pianist Lindy Tennent-Brown.
Lindy has worked as a keyboard player, workshop and rehearsal pianist for more than twenty West End musicals, including Cats, Miss Saigon, Oliver!, Les Miserables, and The Wizard of Oz. She joined NZ Opera as Head of Music in July 2019.
But before the extraordinary voices of NZ Opera fill the stage, Opera Factory will present a curtain-raiser of songs and choruses performed by their youth ensemble featuring singers aged 10 – 25 years from all around Auckland.
Their programme at Opera at the Park will include items from Marriage of Figaro, Hansel & Gretel, Sound of Music, Pirates of Penzance and more.
Due to popular demand, Opera in the Park is being staged this year at a larger location of Glover Park, St Heliers. Starting at 5pm and entertaining until 8pm on Saturday 25 January.

And across town on Anniversary Day the audience will get into the lyrical and dynamic world of te reo and Pacific language music with talented artists Rei and Huia bringing live high energy music and laughter to the stage.

The show is called Our Voices — Our Language and plays on the Music in Parks stage from 1pm to 4pm at Jellicoe Park in Onehunga on Monday 27 January.
