Top 10 list of popular and recommended eNewspapers

Newshounds have been visiting Auckland Libraries’ PressReader in droves to get the latest updates on the Covid-19 pandemic from trustworthy news sources close to home and across the globe. 

The following ten popular and recommended eNewspapers are all free to access 24/7 with an Auckland Libraries membership  – for more eNewspaper options and info about access from home for Auckland Libraries’ customers, click here.  

While library buildings are closed, customers have still been able to access their favourite New Zealand newspapers for breaking news, articles, photos, reviews, analysis, opinion and reader commentary from New Zealand and around the world 
 
The New Zealand Herald / Weekend Herald / Herald on Sunday
The New Zealand Herald has the largest newspaper circulation of the Auckland region and NZ-wide, and library customers have been coming to PressReader for their fix of both the daily and the weekend editions. 
 
Otago Daily Times 

One of New Zealand's four main daily newspapers and the top non-Auckland based regional read for Auckland Libraries’ customers. First published in Dunedin, New Zealand on 15 November 1861, The Otago Daily Times is New Zealand's oldest surviving daily newspaper. 

The Northern Advocate
The Whāngarei and Northland regional daily paper for Whāngarei and Northland is Aucklanders’ best source for news from Cape Reinga to Wellsford. 

The Dominion Post
Based in Wellington, The Dominion Post brings Auckland customers closer to the capital, with local, New Zealand and international news coverage and in-depth analysis. 

Washington Post  
With the US holding a grim global lead in total number of Covid-19 cases and related deaths, Aucklanders have been keeping a close eye on the situation State-side with Washington Post’s coverage of the US government response to the crisis. This Pulitzer Prize winning publication was the top international newspaper accessed this April by Auckland Libraries customers. 

The Guardian 

Following close behind the WaPo, The Guardian is one of the United Kingdom’s leading newspapers and a frequently visited news source for many Aucklanders, many of whom hold fond memories of OEs spent in the UK. Known for its investigative journalism, dispassionate discussion of issues, literary and artistic coverage and criticism, and foreign correspondence. 
 
Daily Mail 
This British daily tabloid covers breaking news, showbiz & celebrity photos, sport news & rumours, viral videos and top stories from around the world – a great read for ex-pats and those who like a lighter international read. 

The Straits Times
This daily English-language broadsheet is based in Singapore and has in-depth coverage of Asian and international news as well as local interest stories. 

The Star Malaysia 

The Penang-based English-language paper has extensive coverage of local Malaysian and Asian coverage and has the largest paid circulation for Malaysian newspapers.  

Mainichi Shimbun / 毎日新聞 

Mainichi Shimbun (Daily News) is one of Japan’s top three daily newspapers with 364 offices across Japan and bureaus abroad. Published in Japanese, this valuable resource keeps Auckland’s Japanese community up to date with news from home.
