More than $300,000 given in Albert-Eden community grants

Last Updated : 07 Dec 2020

Through its combined grants funding and together with the accommodation support grant, Albert-Eden Local Board made a total of $301,891 available to local people and organisations in funding in the 2019-20 financial year.

A total of 85 grants were approved across the Albert-Eden local grant, quick response grant and accommodation grants rounds.

Budget cuts and limited funding has meant that not every organisation that applied for funding received it. The local board’s grants programme is typically over-subscribed each year.

“We know that this year has been hard on people. We also know that community groups provide important services and support to people,” says Albert-Eden Local Board Chair Margi Watson.

“I’m pleased that we can do our part in ensuring that our community organisations can continue to do what they do best.”

Albert-Eden Local Board prioritizes belonging and building thriving communities in the local board area.

“Activities by organisations need to align with the work and priorities of the local board,” says Moumita Dutta, Senior Grants Advisor, Auckland Council.

The grants cover a range of activities across support for seniors and youth, environmental projects, heritage protection, equity, sports, lease or rent support for community groups through to encouraging creativity. For example, Mountains To Sea Conservation Trust, Youthline Auckland Charitable Trust, Morningside Urban Market Garden, Bellyful New Zealand Trust and Aotearoa Resettled Community Coalition Incorporated are just some of the organisations that received grant funding.
