Community organisations across Waitematā have been bolstered with almost $200,000 in grant funding from Waitematā Local Board.
The board’s recent grant funding rounds saw support awarded to a wide range of community projects and organisations.
Among the recipients were Rainbow Youth with $10,000 and Te Karanga Charitable Trust with $9000 from the board’s Accommodation Support Fund, Doughnut Economics with $5000 towards the installation of compost bins at Newton Central School, and the Ponsonby Business Association with $2500 towards community carnival events at the Rose Road pedestrian plaza.
Waitematā Local Board Chair Richard Northey says allocating grant funding is an important way that the board can work to support its diverse communities.
“Supporting community-led work is very important to our board. Many of our local organisations are run by volunteers who put in countless hours; so even a small amount of funding from our board’s grants programmes can make a difference.
“We encourage community groups across our local board area to learn more about how our grants work and to consider applying.
“Our board has a set of criteria that we’re looking for in applications, guided by what we’re working to achieve in our Waitematā Local Board Plan.
“If your local project fits with our board’s goals and priorities, you could be eligible for a funding boost.”
