Audioculture Presents: 100 Years of Live Music on Auckland’s North Shore with Gareth Shute
Surfside ballroom on Saturday night. Robbie Lavën and Marion Arts with the 1953 Memorial Society Rock n Roll Band, from Surfside ballroom stage, for an audience on a Saturday night in the 1960s. Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections T1449

This year, Gareth Shute published a North Shore Storymap on the music history website audioculture.co.nz

The map captures the live scene from 1920s dances in Milford cinemas through to Lorde performing in the heart of Devonport.

Gareth will explain how this scene reflects wider changes that took place in the Auckland music. There’ll be plenty of wonderful photos too.
