As part of We Read Auckland and in association with National Poetry Day 2022, we are hosting a 'Found' Poetry Event.
‘Found’ poetry uses words from elsewhere to create new poems. This event will include some local poets reading their ‘found’ work, as well as a workshop where you’ll get to try your hand at ‘blackout’ poetry.
Blackout poetry is when you take written text from somewhere like a book, magazine, or newspaper and use it to create poetry.
This is done by ‘blacking out’ sections of the text and only leaving a few words visible.
These words then become a blackout poem.
At the workshop, we will use pages from ex-library books and black markers.
This event is part of Auckland Council Libraries' We Read Auckland | Ka Pānui Tātau i Tāmaki Makaurau.
