Flour to Towers – Josiah Clifton Firth with Lisa Truttman
Clifton House in Castle Drive, Mount Eden, the home of Josiah Clifton Firth. Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections 4-8867. Inset: Josiah Clifton Firth. Sir George Grey Special Collections, Auckland Libraries, 34-130

Join Lisa Truttman for this Auckland Heritage Festival talk about Josiah Clifton Firth and his businesses which were an integral part of Auckland's developing economy in the second half of the 19th century.

For over 40 years, Josiah Clifton Firth and his businesses were an integral part of Auckland's developing economy in the second half of the 19th century. He was an ultimate capitalist, riding the waves of opportunity to profit by both his businesses and the Waikato War. He was also an obstinate defender of his own self-interests and a dreamer of dreams that saw the creation of at least two enduring features on the landscape, testaments to his fancies. Join Lisa Truttman as she discusses the life and times of a complex captain of Victorian Auckland industry.

This event will be held in the Central City Library and online via Zoom.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining via Zoom.
