Learn about kerbside recycling in Auckland.
On Saturday, June 10 2023, Visy Recycling is offering free one-hour educational sessions to Auckland residents.
Inside the Visy education room, you'll see videos and live camera feeds of the facility in operation and meet a Visy educator who can help you understand how your recycling service works. Auckland Council Waste Advisors will be there to answer your questions about waste services and you can test your knowledge with some fun waste games.
Please note that visitors will not tour the facility or site. The education session is classroom based and viewing is by live camera feed only.
Safety
- All visitors must wear flat, closed-toe footwear.
- Infants must be carried, as there may be glass debris on floors and walkways.
- Please read the FAQs (below) for key information about safety and comfort.
- There are two flights of stairs to the Education Room. Anyone unable to use the stairs must note this when registering so that the team is aware of the needs of visitors on site.
Mobility
- The Education Room is on the first floor, requiring two flights of stairs.
- The lift can carry one wheelchair at a time.
- Due to fire safety, a maximum of five people needing to use the lift (for any reason) are permitted during each session. You will be asked whether you require the use of the lift at ticket registration. There are Five available tickets for lift users per session.
Parking
- There is no visitor parking available during the event.
- There may be street parking available, but no responsibility for parking is taken by the event host.
- We encourage the use of public transport to these sessions.

- These sessions show how your kerbside recycling bin service works and how recyclables are sorted at the Material Recovery Facility.
- Auckland's residential recycling is sorted at the Visy Recycling site in Onehunga before being sent to material processing facilities and remanufacturers. Learn what you can put in your kerbside recycling bin and how it gets sorted into various material streams onsite.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
