Birkenhead Library is extremely excited to be part of Ecofest 2024! We have a range of activities throughout the month to keep you going!

  • Seed Drive & Plant Swap | Saturday 16 March | 11am - 12pm
    Bring your own seeds to swap with others or donate them to our community seed library. There will be a plant & seedling swap courtesy of Highbury House and plenty of activities for tamariki and whanau!
  • Permaculture talks (English) | Wednesday 20 March | 2pm - 3pm
    Diversity or Uniformity? What do you want to have for your garden? The way how we do gardening reflects our lifestyle. Based on our communities, we can achieve sustainability by adopting a wise lifestyle.  In this workshop we will discuss embedded systems, functional parts, plant selection and appearance & maintenance.

  • April Gardening Guide (English) | Thursday 4 April | 2pm - 3pm
    April is here, and the long-lost rainfall has revitalised the garden that has been dry all summer. The night's temperature has become cooler, and the lawn has finally returned to its former green colour. Plants have sprouted new branches and leaves, and everything is lively.
  • Compost Basics – 3 System talk | Wednesday 10 April | 11:30am – 1:30pm

Join Pip from the Compost Collective for an introduction to the three most common and easy composting systems that can be used in the home and garden; traditional cold composting bins, worm farms, and Bokashi buckets. Registrations essential through compostcollective.org.nz
