Ngā Tamariki o Matariki (The Children of Matariki) - Central City Library

Join us for some school holiday fun at Central City Library. All these events do not require booking, unless otherwise stated. Please remember children under the age of 14 years must be supervised by an adult care-giver.

Saturday 6 July:

  • 11am-12:30pm & 1-2:30pm: Albion Letterpress Printing
    Experience this heritage, hands-on activity, printing a special Matariki keepsake on an 1833 Albion Press. No registration required, suitable for ages 5 and up.
  • 11am – 1pm: Bookbinding and Zine-making Workshop
    No registration is required, but we recommend you arrive early to secure a spot. This event is for ages 12 and up, and young adults are welcome.

Monday 8 July: 2-2:30pm
Tu Meke Tales with author Malcolm Clarke

Expect giggles and gasps as Malcolm kicks off with an interactive reading from his beloved bestsellers, Tu Meke Tūī! and Tu Meke Tuatara! The adventure continues with a catchy song, insightful conservation chat, and exciting opportunities to snag some Tu Meke prizes!
While children of all ages are welcome, the experience is tailored especially for little ones aged 2 to 7.

Tuesday 9 July: 2-4pm
Make a Matariki Constellation with Brain Play

Create the Matariki constellation using LEDs & copper with this fun electronics project. This event is best suited for children aged 12 and over. Please email centralcitylibrarykids@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz to register your interest.

Saturday 13 July: 11am – 1pm
Macrame Flower Workshop
Come along and learn how to make a Macrame Flower Keychain. No registrations required. For ages 8 and up.

Thursday 11 July & Saturday 20 July: 2-4pm
Matariki Games
Gather your whanau and try your hand at Mū Tōrere, Ti Rākau and more. Suitable for all ages.

Tuesday 16 and Thursday 18 July: 2-4pm
Matariki Crafts
Get creative with some crafty ideas inspired by Nga Tamariki o Matariki at these drop-in sessions. Recommended for ages 5-12.
