Ngā Tamariki o Matariki (The Children of Matariki) - July School Holidays at Whangaparāoa Library

Join us at Whangaparāoa Library for lots of school holiday fun. No bookings or registration required for any events.

Along with these events there will be games, puzzles, activities and scavenger hunts all holidays long!

Events:

Tuesday 9th July: 10am – 11am

Plastic Free July activity with Hibiscus Coast Zero Waste

Did you know there are some really simple ways you can reduce your lunchbox's food packaging and save money?

Making swaps at the supermarket is really easy and Hibiscus Coast Zero Waste have set up a fantastic shopping game to help us learn about packaging in the lunchbox and how even making one small swap can make all the difference. 

 

Wednesday 10th July: 1pm - 3pm

Minecraft Club - Special School Holiday Session

Come and join us for some Minecraft fun these school holidays in the Pōhutukawa room. Bring your own device with Minecraft already loaded and join in! Make friends, share tips and tricks, and have a go at our Minecraft building challenge! 


Please remember that children will need to bring their own device with Minecraft already loaded on it.

 

Thursday 11th July: 2pm - 4pm

Matariki Crafternoon

Drop into this crafternoon session in the Pōhutukawa Room at Whangaparāoa Library and get creative with some Nga Tamariki o Matariki inspired star crafts.

Recommended for ages 5-12.


Friday 12th July: 10am - 11am

Learn to Knit with Sharon


Bring your own needles, yarn, and Big Person to help and join us in the children’s area for a knitting class. All levels of experience welcome. 


Monday 15th July: 10am - 11am

Whānau Stars with Hibiscus Coast Genealogy

Find out more about your family history while creating beautiful, folded Whānau stars with the lovely Hibiscus Coast Genealogy group. All ages are welcome to join this activity.

Older children and teens can use the computers in the Genealogy area to look up their family history.

 

Wednesday 17th July: 2pm - 4pm

Olympics Crafternoon

Drop into this crafternoon session in the Pōhutukawa Room at Whangaparāoa Library and get creative with some Olympics inspired crafts. Recommended for ages 5-12.


Thursday 18th July: 10am - 11:30am

Matariki talk and Harakeke weaving with Kendra


Learn each stars name and what it correlates to, along with a Karakia, and learning the art of weaving a Harakeke whetū star, an ika fish, or a Putiputi flower.

 

Friday 19th July: 10am - 11am.

Learn to Knit with Sharon
