Belfast-born James Williamson spent his youth on his father’s sailing ship trading throughout the South Pacific. By the 1870s he had earned the reputation of being a self-made merchant prince. To reflect his prosperity, Williamson purchased the land upon which the large Italianate home the Pah Homestead was built.
Classified as a Heritage 1 site, this tour explores the lives of individuals and iwi connected to the land surrounding Pah Homestead, the decisions they made and their impact on society today.
