This journey will begin with the arrival of Venetian sailor Antonio Ponto, aboard Captain Cook's Endeavour during its 1769 voyage. Ponto's presence on that expedition marked the first known visit by an Italian to Aotearoa, confirming its existence for Italians.
Giuseppe will explore the exchanges that have shaped the relationship between Italians and New Zealanders. His speech will encompass both peaceful periods, including the last 30-years he has lived in New Zealand, and the devastating impact of World War II.
Giuseppe will invite the audience to interject with personal experiences or thoughts, and of course at the end of the talk there will be Q&A time.
