Join us these July School Holidays and celebrate Matariki!
Saturday 4 July, 11am - 12.30pm | Wā Tamariki
Come explore the world of te ao, and meet some of our wāhine atua (Māori goddesses) in line with Matariki celebrations. We will sing, share stories and do a drawing craft activity! Led by artist and researcher, Marcella Williams.
Wednesday 8 July, 10.30am - 12pm | Creatures of the Night with Kiri Lightfoot
Discover stories of our native birds of the night. Listen to the legends of the ruru (morepork) and other nocturnal creatures. Get creative and craft an owl finger puppet to take home.
Thursday 9 July, 10am - 11am | Rainbow Messfest with Messy Rainbows
Join us for Rainbow Messfest! A colourful, creative sensory play session for rainbow whānau, allies and all our littlest explorers! Free entry. All ages - supervision for children under 6 required.
Wednesday 15 July, 11am - 12pm | Matariki Star Cluster Map Craft
Create a Matariki Map on a leaf-shaped card, that you can use to navigate the stars! Just like Flit the Fantail in Kat Quin’s children’s book.
Friday 17 July, 2pm - 4pm | Handmade Matariki Lantern Workshop
We will transform upcycled cardboard and colourful paper into lanterns featuring unique paper-cut designs each inspired by the whetū (stars) of Matariki. Free crafty fun and memorable hands-on learning for the whole whānau. Hosted by local craft fairy Rosemary Peppermint (they/them).
No bookings required. Children will need to be supervised at all times. We will also have ongoing self-guided activities in the library throughout the whole holidays! Visit the library or our Facebook page to find out more.
