A project by Auckland Council’s stormwater department to create a wetland area near Croftfield Lane in Wairau Valley is well underway.

The new wetland will improve the stream habitat for native fish and eels, and help clean and filter stream water flowing to Milford Beach. It will also help reduce the risk of floods and flood damage in Wairau Valley.

Kaipātiki Local Board Chair Kay McIntyre says, “Not only will this area look and function much better, but locals will get to enjoy this area in a way not currently possible. The new path and bridge will provide safe and attractive walking and cycling connections between Tristram Avenue and Link Drive.”

Auckland Council’s public art team will install a sculpture in the area once construction is completed in June. A community opening event hosted by the local board will also be held.
