It’s the most wonderful time of the year and Auckland Council’s local boards are bringing the free good will and joy to a neighbourhood near you.

From carol singing through light displays to small festive festivals, there is something to help get you into the spirit of the season. There are also plenty of special festive events on the OurAuckland events page, but here are a few special gifts to highlight.

Jingle Bell parks

Warm up your vocal chords, get your red hat out of storage and head down to one of the carolling events in a local park.

All your favourite Christmas carols will be sung, but the events are not just about singing. With performances, children’s entertainment, food trucks, stalls and even a rumoured visit or two by jolly ole St Nick and Mrs Claus, there is plenty of fun for the whole whānau.

Three different carolling events are planned across three weeks in the central Auckland local boards of Albert-Eden, Ōrakei and Puketāpapa.

Alternatively, head out to Henderson for the annual Christmas Festival, a fun-filled day full of all the festive joy as well as performers, roaming entertainment and giveaway.

“O stars of wonder…”

Auckland Council and Vector are once again bringing some illumination to your summer nights with the sustainable energy show Vector Lights.

From December 13th the Harbour Bridge will be lit up with a light interpretation of the 12 Days of a Kiwi Christmas.

Head to the end of either Queen or Princes Wharf or at the end of Silo Park for the best views of show.

Kicking off at 9pm every evening, the show will be repeated every 15 minutes until midnight.

Additionally, annual Christmas Lights events are back to delight young and old alike. Local performers will entertain the whānau and community singing will help you get into the festive spirit. If you can’t get to the launch events, still head to either Stockade Hill in Howick or Jellicoe Park in Onehunga up to Christmas Eve to enjoy the beautiful bright lights adorning the trees in the two locations.

Head to the festive page on OurAuckland to find out more on all of these and more Christmas events supported by Auckland Council or local boards.
