Businesses and community organisations in the Howick Local Board area are running out of time to apply for a grant in the latest funding round.

The board’s 2023/2024 Quick Response Grant round two, for grants up to $3000, closes on 10 May.

Local board chair Damian Light says, “Instead of trying to do everything ourselves, we look for partnerships and local procurement. We know that businesses and community organisations are facing similar challenges with rising costs and high inflation, and we’re determined to help them.”

The grants will support programmes or projects that meet one or more of the boards priorities:

  • Targeted at growing a confident and sustainable local economy

  • building well connected, engaged and active communities

  • protecting our environment and heritage for future generations

  • celebrating our unique tangata whenua and pacific identities

  • opportunities for our children and young people to grow and succeed, and thrive and belong in safe, healthy communities.

Light shares that higher priority is based on projects that include environmental outcomes or help revitalise and increase economic activity in local town centres.

“The health, wellbeing and safety of all our communities is a key focus as part of our Local Board plan and we want to commit to programmes that support an involved, connected, active and healthy community.

“We want to promote wellbeing and to ensure we are part of an inclusive society, support community organisations to develop their capacity, foster community involvement in projects and services, promote self-sufficiency, expand environmental programmes and initiatives, and look to have more delivered by community groups," Light adds.

Quick response grants are for projects up to $3,000 and are offered up to twice a year.

Applications are open and close 10 May 2024 and applicants can apply here.
