Celebrating the first five years of Ka Mua Ka Muri, this special retrospective highlights a dynamic journey of music, storytelling and live performance captured across Auckland’s evolving contemporary music scene.
Presented by Auckland Council Arts and Culture and Auckland Libraries, the series has showcased a diverse range of Taamaki artists - capturing intimate live sessions, interviews and unique performances that reflect the depth and diversity of local sound. From emerging voices to established creatives, Ka Mua Ka Muri has become a platform where past, present and future of Auckland music meet.
This May, in celebration of NZ Music Month, a curated selection of performances from the series’ first five years will screen throughout the digital screen at the Ellen Melville Centre. The installation offers a chance to revisit standout moments, rediscover artists and reflect on the evolving story of music in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Honouring the spirit of 'walking backwards into the future', this showcase invites audiences to pause, reflect and experience the richness of local music culture - right in the heart of the city.
