Tūhono: Matariki 2026 will bring Te Tōangaroa and the city to life through a powerful light trail of story, movement and connection.
Developed by whānau artists and ahi kā of Tāmaki Makaurau, these installations will reflect the unique identity, creativity and presence of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei across the city during the Matariki season.
This year, we’re excited for our artists to help shape two major installations – Waka Maumahara, a large-scale waka-inspired form, and the Beach Road Connection, a light-based installation woven throughout the trail. Together, these works will create an immersive experience for the thousands expected to visit during Matariki.
