Come together this Matariki to weave your own harakeke (flax) star and celebrate the season with creativity and connection.

We’ll begin with a simple waiata to gently guide our time together. Along the way, you’ll hear stories about the history, use and importance of harakeke. You'll also learn the tikanga that sits around harvesting and weaving.

This is a relaxed, hands-on workshop where you can slow down, try something new and connect with others as we reflect on the stars of Matariki.

We’ll wrap up with a shared morning tea - a chance to enjoy some kai and good company.

What to bring / wear:

  • Comfortable clothing (we’ll be seated on mats or cushions).
  • A pair of scissors and four pegs with springs (we will also have some available to use).
  • Optional: bring a plate to share for morning tea.

This workshop is suitable for ages 8+. Children aged 8-14 must attend with a parent or caregiver.
