Retracing Nancy Wake: A wartime journey with Maria Gill
Maria will share the fascinating research process behind her latest book, including retracing the extraordinary spy adventures of wartime heroine Nancy Wake in France. Maria also cycled part of Nancy Wake’s epic 600-kilometre wartime route to deliver an urgent message to London, bringing history vividly to life through her own experience on the road.
This is a free event, and everyone is welcome. Tea, coffee, and Anzac biscuits will be provided.
Signed copies of Maria’s book ‘A Flame in the Dark’ will be available for purchase on the night, with thanks to Paper Plus, Browns Bay.

Discover the art of harakeke weaving and create your own beautiful putiputi (flax flower).
Learn traditional techniques, celebrate Māori culture and enjoy a relaxing, hands-on creative experience at the library. This is an advanced beginner’s session for the whole whānau to attend.
Wednesday 8 July, 2pm - 3pm | Juggling for Ururangi: Make and Play
Celebrate Matariki and honour Ururangi, the star of winds, by making your own juggling balls and learning basic juggling skills. Enjoy a fun, hands-on activity for 8+.

Join Dr Neil for a fascinating author talk about Molly the Albatross to honour Tupuārangi.
Discover the remarkable story behind this beloved seabird, gain insights from the author and enjoy an engaging discussion. We will be creating paper feathers for our community kākahu.

Friday 17 July, 2.30pm - 4pm | Waitī and Waitā: Flax Weaving Experience
Let’s honour Waitī and Waitā through traditional harakeke to make ika.
