Interactive creative writing and short stories workshop. Discover you can write too!
In Dr Nina Nola's workshop you will look at openings of some famous memoirs and fictionalised life stories, then complete some short writing exercises to find a voice you can work with. Bring pen and paper, and a willingness to share. All levels welcome, from beginner to published author!

About the author/facilitator:
Nina Nola is an author, editor, manuscript assessor and researcher. She taught English literature for the majority of her career at the University of Auckland. She has many academic publications to her credit and has guest lectured at universities and cultural institutions around the world. She has also been involved in several film productions in various capacities based on her Croatian heritage. Nina lives with her architect husband on a small farm by the sea in Whangateau and travels each year to spend time in her great-grandmother’s house on the island Hvar in Croatia.
Nina is a passionate reader and reviewer, and has taught literature and creative writing at the University of Auckland for two decades, running many short story and poetry competitions. She recently published her memoir, The Way to Spell Love (The Cuba Press, 2025) and is completing a novel.

Open to adults aged 18+.
Which room will the workshop be in?
The event will be held in the Betty Paxton Room of the community centre that is attached to the library.
