Throughout August, the Hokohoko Museum Store Presents The Glass Lens, bringing together contemporary glass artists from across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Each artist contributes to an ongoing dialogue between tradition and innovation, reflecting the evolving possibilities of glass as a medium for artistic expression.
To close out the showcase and for one night only, join us on the final Twilight Tuesday of August for an evening with:

- Keith Grinter
- Luke Jacomb and Tara Ross of Luke Jacomb Studio
- Judy Newton
- Lynden Over and Christine Robb of Lava Glass.
They will engage in a panel discussion about their distinct approaches to their craft and influences on their work.
Afterwards, join the artists in the The Glass Lens where you can meet the artists and experience their works up close.
Our artists and their works sit alongside the broader history of glass represented in the Auckland Museum’s Applied Arts and Design Collection.
The Museum’s glass collection is celebrated for tracing the history of local studio glass movements with works by influential glassmakers such as Ann Robinson, John Croucher, Garry Nash, Peter Raos and Te Rongo Kirkwood to name a few, alongside significant historical glassware, including Victorian-era and 19th-century pressed and cut-glass souvenirs from the Auckland region.
The Museum collection provides a context for understanding the continued development of glass as an artistic practice. It highlights the contribution of contemporary artists to the field and offers visitors an opportunity to engage with glass as a living and continually evolving art form.
