About Thomas Coyle MNZM:
Thomas Coyle MNZM is one of New Zealand's foremost forensic specialists, with a career spanning more than 37 years in forensic science, crime scene examination, fingerprint identification and disaster victim identification.
He began his forensic career at New Scotland Yard in London in 1988, training as both a fingerprint expert and crime scene investigator before progressing to senior forensic leadership roles. Throughout his career, he has examined thousands of crime scenes, including hundreds of homicide and serious crime investigations.
Thomas is also an internationally experienced Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) specialist, having worked on some of the most significant disaster recovery operations of recent decades, including the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in Thailand and the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.
In recognition of his contribution to forensic science, he was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in the 2024 King's Birthday Honours.
Today, Thomas is President of the Independent Forensic Practitioners Institute and continues to share his expertise through education, consulting, public speaking, and his company, Forensic Insight Ltd.
