Join Homestead Galleries Curator and Exhibitions Manager Java Bentley for an intimate tour of our current exhibitions: Tūturu Kāenga and Witipū.
Tūturu Kāenga is an exhibition by father and son, George Konia and Brook Konia. Inspired by a road trip together along Highway 35 and wānanga at Hinerupe Marae, Te Araroa, in 2025. They each carried stories home, letting them inspire their creativity to become the artworks in this exhibition.
Witipū invites us to reconsider a term that has long been used to describe wāhine Māori who are unwavering, formidable and unapologetically present. Rather than accepting inherited assumptions, this exhibition reclaims Witipū as an affirmation of mana, resilience, wisdom and the many ways strength is embodied.
