Explore the rich and detailed history of the Jubilee Building as a residential institute and school for the blind.
Learn about the classrooms, workshops, dining room and hostels of the Jubilee Building and surrounding structures, where residents lived, learned, and worked during the 20th century.
This tour is led by Chris Orr, former resident and current Blind Low Vision NZ board member who has dedicated over 46 years to the organisation. Chris is joined by his guide dog, Kiwi.
This special walk is facilitated by Blind Low Vision NZ, together with Parnell Community Centre and Parnell Library, who share the Jubilee Building space.
The tour is followed by another Auckland Heritage Festival event in the same location – an author discussion on Chinese market gardening in Parnell. Make a day of it and come along to both!
