Hosted at Basement Theatre, Mangrove Eaters is a new theatre work.
In a small town in Aotearoa, children are going missing and crocodiles have started appearing in the mangroves surrounding the town.
After an unceremonious exit five years ago, Jess has returned to her hometown, where familiar faces and strange happenings haunt the air of this once intimate place.
Nan is six feet under. Pippie itches. Mutton sings to his fish. And Kōwhai can't stomach anything.
This band of strays sets out to uncover what is happening to their town, but secrets and old grudges threaten their mission as scales begin to appear and time burns out.
Perhaps the missing children aren't missing after all...
Presented by award-winning theatre company S.L.U.G. (Society for Little Ugly Girls), Mangrove Eaters is a live music, visual art and theatre experience making its Tāmaki Makaurau debut.
