Celebrate Papua New Guinea Language Week with a special tok stori with Julia Mage’au Grey, Papua New Guinean skin-marking practitioner, performer, documentary maker and more.
Julia will share stories from her creative journey and talk about the Tep Tok documentary project, which began in 2012 with four women of Papua New Guinean and Australian descent, raising awareness of the traditional art of skin marking in Central Province, Papua New Guinea.
Through three documentaries, Tep Tok follows the Melanesian ‘Tattoo’ Revival, exploring:
- culture
- identity
- ancestral knowledge
- the revitalisation of traditional skin-marking practices.
Come along for an inspiring conversation with Julia about her work, culture, creativity and the stories behind the revival. Bring your questions and join the tok stori!
