Te Ahiwaru (Te Ihu o Mataoho Tours), with support from the community parks team, are hosting a guided hīkoi through the unique Ōtuataua Stonefields Historic Reserve at Ihumātao in Māngere.
The reserve and surrounding area are an internationally significant cultural and natural heritage area, and a taonga / treasure for ahi kā. Well before modern trade, tangata whenua harnessed the fertile volcanic terrain, shaping it into a vast and productive landscape.
An average level of fitness and mobility is required. Some rough and rocky terrain is involved.
