As part of the Auckland Heritage Festival, the community parks team, in partnership with The Pumphouse Theatre, are hosting a guided tour of the historic Pumphouse and surrounding park.
The walk begins at the Pumphouse Theatre, originally built 1905–1906 as a vital water pumping station that drew water from Lake Pupuke to supply Takapuna and neighbouring North Shore communities. Its sturdy brick form and tall chimney are reminders of the infrastructure that supported early settlement.
From there, the tour continues into Killarney Park, where the calm waters of Lake Pupuke reveal a much older story, formed thousands of years ago by volcanic activity. An average level of fitness and mobility is required – see you there.
