Response 33 St Mark's Church, Remuera, Through The Years

The Anglican Parish of St Mark has been a cherished sanctuary for worship since 1847, when a beautiful chapel opened on land gifted by George Graham to Bishop George Selwyn.

The original chapel was moved in 1860 to make way for the current church. Every generation since has left its mark on the building and grounds, which reached their current extent in the mid-1950s.

The historic churchyard holds deep stories of the past, with the first burial dating back to 1849. The Rev'd Tony Surman, Vicar of St Mark's, warmly invites you to step inside this taonga of Remuera, and explore its rich history. He is looking forward to sharing his knowledge of the site, and guiding you through the parish's architecture, art and memorials.
