Tempo Dance Festival presents The Room Would Split Open (Body Island).

A body does not reorganise alone. Directed by Kelly Nash, The Room Would Split Open asks what care can do when it becomes physical, political and choreographic. Not softness. Not rescue. A practice of attention.

Beneath the surface of each body are histories, shocks and connections that have never fully disappeared. The work gathers around the body as an archive - a living field of memory, protection and response. It moves through the ache of knowing but not having, the intelligence of survival and the ways a body keeps the shape of what once held it.

Created through SomaTactics, Body Island's choreographic practice of touch, pressure and relational response, this work goes deeper into the inner world of Mythosoma, co-commissioned by Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts and YIRRAMBOI.

Please note: Contains references to hospital surgery. Recommended for ages 12+.

Presented as part of Tempo Dance Festival 13–18 October 2026.
