Jordyn With a Why

Samoan-Māori artist Jordyn With a Why began with gospel music. Her childhood was full of singing and performance, but it wasn’t until after she became a mother that Jordyn was ready to give her music a real go.

“Family is everything when it comes to music,” she says. “We use terms like ‘I’m an independent artist, but I’m really not, I’m an ‘inter-dependent’ artist. There’s no way I could do what I do without the support of my family.

With influences like Nesian Mystik, Aaradhna, Che Fu and King Kapisi, and her commitment to te reo Māori, Jordyn ties all these threads together with the stories she is telling personally – especially language reclamation – into music with strong, sweet vocals and wāhine toa magic.
