Thabani Gapara

Zimbabwean-born saxophonist Thabani Gapara is southern African jazz embodied, with a sound as commanding as it is soulful. He was born into African jazz rhythms, raised in its music traditions, and now is re-imagining them – connecting past, present, and future in a groove that demands to be felt.

For two decades, Thabani has been a trusted sideman and an in-demand session musician. Then, 2020 saw him step into his own spotlight, bringing his passion for southern African jazz to the forefront. His music is a vibrant fusion of Bantu rhythms, funk grooves, and boundless improvisation that incorporates the many sounds of African diaspora.
