Planning for greenways in the Rodney Local Board area is well underway.

The Wellsford Greenways Plan was created after community engagement and consultation, including a meeting with Wellsford residents on 14 May. Feedback helped to establish an order of importance on proposed routes, so future planning and construction can be prioritised.

Rodney Local Board Chair Brenda Steele said community engagement was invaluable in shaping the plan. “We heard some great ideas from those young and old and many of those ideas have gone into this plan for Wellsford,” she says.

The development of greenways plans is part of the local board’s commitment to improving access and connectivity in Rodney towns and villages.

Over the next 18 months, focus will shift to advancing greenways plans for other towns across Rodney.

What are greenways?

Greenways provide cycling, walking and, where possible, bridle connections that are safe and enjoyable, while also improving local ecology and access to recreational opportunities. They typically follow natural landforms such as streams and coasts, as well as artificial features like streets and highways.
