AV Jennings to develop first stage of Airfields precinct

Panuku Development Auckland has confirmed AV Jennings as the housing developer for the first stage of the Airfields precinct at Hobsonville Point.

The precinct consists of a 20 hectare Auckland Council-owned site, which was formerly part of the Hobsonville Airforce Base. The site was designated for housing and mixed use late last year following previous attempts for it to become a marine industry precinct.

890 homes planned

Up to 890 homes in total are planned for the Airfields precinct, with around $78 million worth of housing to be built as part of the first stage by AV Jennings and its builder partners across 1.95ha on the southern edge of the site.

One hundred and two homes, including a mix of standalone and terrace dwellings, will be delivered in the first stage, with a minimum of 10 per cent to be affordable housing in line with the Hobsonville’s Axis Series Housing Scheme.

Hundreds of jobs created

Waitakere Ward Councillor and Auckland Deputy Mayor, Penny Hulse, says it’s great to see real momentum now on the Hobsonville Point site after a period of uncertainty relating to how it would be developed.

“Not a day goes by that housing stories don’t make the front page of the newspaper, so it’s excellent news to hear more homes are being delivered at Hobsonville Point. It’s not just the future residents who’ll benefit, as the development of this site will also provide hundreds of construction jobs for tradies and contractors across the region.”

Construction due to start late 2016

Panuku Director of Development, Allan Young, says this is a significant project for Panuku, and AV Jennings stood out as the obvious candidate for the first stage given how the Catalina Precinct and the Airfields integrate at the southern end of the site.

“With a housing shortage across Auckland, we required a development partner that could deliver a known quality product to the market as soon as possible at Hobsonville Point.

“AV Jennings has an excellent track record in the area and we’re delighted to be at the stage where we will soon have homes being built on this stunning site located in the centre of Hobsonville Point,” said Mr Young.

Key infrastructure work is already underway to enable the creation of the first housing superlots, with construction of the first homes expected to start late this year.
