Puketāpapa Local Board has made a significant commitment to older people in the area by establishing a new seniors portfolio.
Local board member and seniors portfolio holder David Holm says, “The board will continue to work with older Aucklanders, including residents in our retirement homes and Housing New Zealand villages, to advocate for their needs, particularly in the areas of housing and transport.”
Alongside the council’s Seniors Advisory Panel and other local agencies, the board is committed to programmes that combat isolation, and to working with Puketāpapa’s diverse population.
“Older people who have recently moved to New Zealand may also have to adjust to a new environment and a new language," says Mr Holm.
"They often need help to discover what services are available to them."
The board also supports special programmes for over 65s in the area’s recreation centres and library.
