The arts in Whau are getting a boost thanks to Whau Community Arts Broker Melissa Laing.
Her role is a community service funded by Whau Local Board to support a range of local arts activities by nurturing the cultural and creative vibrancy of Whau’s communities.
In her 21 months on the job Melissa has supported 28 different arts projects, from comics workshops to pop-up choirs, sound walks, children’s theatre programmes and exhibitions.
Vibrancy of Whau area
“The Whau is a great area to work in,” says Melissa. “There are so many local artists, performers, musicians and writers who are proud to live here and want to contribute to growing its vibrancy.”
“Each project I’ve supported has been run by people with a passion for the arts and it is a joy to help them share that.”
Wide range of work
Melissa’s work can range from assistance with council processes and grant applications to funding and marketing. She can also help you meet other creative people in the Whau.
