Ōrākei Local Board Deputy Chair Kit Parkinson and Board Member Carmel Claridge, both keen cyclists, have signed up to February’s Auckland Bike Challenge.

With more Aucklanders choosing to cycle, the challenge is not about who can ride the most kilometres, but who can encourage the most people to give bicycling a try.

“The first stage of the Glen Innes to Tamaki Drive walking and cycling shared path is proving to be a great success,” said Kit.

“This year we will be advocating for the pathway extension from Gowing Drive in Meadowbank that will open a safe way for local children to ride to school,” he said.

“I encourage everyone to give it a go and enjoy the benefits of being on a bike outside in the fresh air,” said Carmel who got back into cycling last year.

"It’s a great way to get fit and see your neighbourhood from a whole new perspective."
